New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was among
several players not to participate in Wednesday’s practice, while tight ends
Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski were limited.

Welker has been dealing with an ankle injury since early
Oct., but it hasn’t received much notice as the speedy slot receiver has
continued to play through it. He appeared to reinjure the ankle against the St.
Louis Rams in London, and he was limping late in last week’s Buffalo
Bills game. Nick Underhill of CBSSports.com says it may be time to take Welker’s
injury, which he terms “real,” seriously.
Beyond Welker, offensive lineman Logan Mankins (ankle/calf)
and Dan Connolly (back) did not practice yesterday.
Gronkowski (hip) was able to play last Sunday, but an ankle
injury once again forced Hernandez to the sideline.
