Originally, the Pittsburgh Steelers were concerned about Ben Roethlisberger's shoulder injury and whether he would be able to play on Sunday. He has since ben ruled out for Sunday, and he has been diagnosed with a shoulder sprain. However, X-Rays revealed a much more serious injury.
The Steelers have a big game coming up against the Baltimore Ravens. In fact, they play the Ravens two times in their next three games. They currently trail the Ravens by one game in the division, but they will be without Roethlisberger indefinitely as the quarterback has suffered a dislocated rib. According to Matt Vensel of the Baltimore Sun, Roethlisberger's rib dislocation is serious in the fact that it could puncture or lacerate his aorta if he were to take a hit before the rib was healed.
The rib injury will sideline Roelisthberger until it is healed. There will be no amount of tape or cortisone shots that can fix this issue. The fact is, Roethlisberger could die if the rib were to puncture his aorta. The Steelers will have to prepare for life without their star QB. But Roethlisberger wants to and hopes to return this season.
Ben Roethlisberger has spent the last nine seasons with the Steelers. He has two Super Bowl rings under his belt and another Super Bowl appearance. He has over 28,000 yards in his career and 182 touchdowns. This season, Roethlisberger has thrown for over 2,200 yards already and connected on 17 touchdowns.
The team has done well recently in times when they have had to play without Roethlisberger, but they have a difficult schedule ahead of them with the two games against Baltimore.
