New Orleans running back Darren Sproles will need surgery on his hand, according to Saints columnist Mike Triplett.
Sproles has been ruled out of Monday's game against Philadelphia. Saints head coach Joe Vitt said there is no timetable for Sproles' return.
Tripplet indicated that running back Pierre Thomas will have more touches, and Mark Ingram and Chris Ivory could get an increased role.
The Saints will be down a wide receiver as Courtney Roby will miss the Eagles game with a shoulder injury.
