49ers Injury Report: Justin Smith Returns to Practice

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith returned to practice yesterday for the first time since sustaining his triceps injury during a Dec. 16 contest against the New England Patriots, reports Matt Barrowsof The Sacramento Bee.

Justin Smith today was in uniform for the first time since his Dec. 16 triceps injury. Smith, wearing a plastic brace over his left arm, warmed up with his fellow defensive linemen and went through individual drills. It was the defensive lineman's first on-field injury since partially tearing his triceps tendon in the third quarter against New England.

Smith’s injury kept him out of the second half of the Patriots’ game as well as the 49ers’ next two matchups against the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.

While he wasn’t able to return for the end of the regular season, Smith did vow to make it back for the playoffs. It appears that he’s poised to return to the field next weekend when the 49ers begin their postseason play.
