The Philadelphia Eagles continue their search for their next
head coach, and NFL sources now say the team is interested in filling the
vacancy with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly, according to Jeff McLane of The
Philadelphia Inquirer.
The latest big name on the team’s radar is Brian Kelly. The Eagles are interested in the 51-year-old Notre Dame coach and have made overtures to Kelly, two NFL sources said.
On the surface, it doesn’t appear that Kelly is interested
in leaving Notre Dame for the NFL ranks. He recently said that “leaving is not
an option,” as coaching the Fighting Irish is his dream job.
Still, we’ve seen coaching in this situation leave for the
big lights and even bigger payday the NFL can provide in the past. He wouldn’t
go as far as say he’ll never coach in the NFL, adding that “it’s all about
timing.”
With Notre Dame’s embarrassing loss to the Alabama Crimson
Tide in the recent national title game, maybe he’ll view this as the right time
to move on and take an opportunity while it’s available.
