New Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell made
it clear yesterday during his introductory press conference that he’s not
planning to acquire quarterback Tim Tebow from the New York Jets, reports Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.
"I can't imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar," Caldwell said at his introductory news conference.
Caldwell added that the Jaguars will not sign Tebow even if
the Jets elect to release him this offseason. The crowd of reporters seemed surprised
by the statement, as Jacksonville figured to be Tebow’s ultimate landing spot
this offseason.
Last month it was reported that it was basically a lock that
Tebow would join the Jaguars after one season with the Jets. While ownership
seemed to be in favor of the addition, apparently those in the new front office
are not as enamored by the Jacksonville-native.
Caldwell did say that quarterback Blaine Gabbert will
continue to get an opportunity to claim the starting role, as the team will
enter the year with an open competition at the position.
