Dolphins rumors: Miami, Brian Hartline ‘deep’ in extension talks

The Miami Dolphins are deep in contract extension talks with wide receiver Brian Hartline, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Tuesday morning that the Dolphins and Brian Hartline are in deep talks to keep the receiver long term, according to a source involved in the talks. Nothing is imminent, but things could come together quickly.

It appears that the Dolphins and Hartline are close to finalizing an agreement, as Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reported yesterday that the pending deal would include an average annual salary between $6 and $6.5 million.

The Dolphins drafted Hartline in the 4th round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He posted three middling seasons from 2009-11 before breaking out in 2012. Last season he caught 74 passes for 1,083 yards and one touchdown.

Even if the Dolphins re-sign Hartline, the team has enough salary cap space – roughly $38 million – to go out and also acquire a free agent wide receiver, such as Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings.
