It now appears the New York Jets will trade cornerback Darrelle Revis, and the Atlanta Falcons have joined the list of potential
buyers, according to Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News.
The Falcons, who lost to the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, are also considered a team that could emerge as a player in the Revis sweepstakes.
Since word of Revis’ potential availability broke earlier
this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers have been the team most-tied to the
cornerback. However, Mehta hears that the Falcons are also considered a team
that could emerge as a serious player for Revis.
The Jets have not formally announced that they are shopping
Revis, but a source told Mehta that the team “can’t keep him” at this point,
and a trade “is happening.” New York apparently wants to “start fresh,” and
this would seem to entail trading Revis for a bevy of high draft picks.
A trade could happen sooner than later, as the Jets may want
to avoid teams filling their needs via free agency. The buyers that are already
lining up for Revis are said to be willing to hand over draft picks to help facilitate
a deal.
