New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton told reporters,
including Larry Holder of NOLA.com, that he envisions veteran defensive end
Will Smith, linebacker Jonathan Vilma and safety Roman Harper on the team’s
roster next season.
However, Payton did offer a disclaimer:
"It's different now. There's an economic factor to it. It's as simple as a household budget. If you're going to have cable and you're going to have heat, you might not be able to have something else. So you've really got to look closely at your production, you've got to look closely at your cap."
The Saints remain just over the salary cap even after they restructured
the contracts of Marques Colston, Jahri Evans, Ben Grubbs, David Hawthorne,
Curtis Lofton and Brodrick Bunkley this offseason. Smith ($14.5 million salary
cap figure for 2013), Vilma ($8.6 million) and Harper ($7.1 million) are all
candidates to be restructured or released in order to help get the team under
the cap.

Before Anyone says anything I want to say that I love Drew Brees and He IS the best player and best thing that EVER happened to the WHO DAT NATION.But to me he should restructure his contract.Everyone else is doing their part by restructuring their contracts to help the team to keep and get new players..He said when he was fighting for his contract that he wouldn't hurt the team but I never seen the Saints this worried about cap space.
